CBSE Class 7 Maths: Important Topics and Chapters

CBSE Class 7 Maths: Important Topics and Chapters. The perfect time for laying the foundation for future classes is in Class 7. It is a crucial part of any student’s life. With fast-paced, cut-throat competition, simply studying in the class does not suffice. Students have to engage in self-study to master every concept and theory. At the same time, they should also know how to implement what they are learning, in practical situations.

While class 7 is often not given enough importance, it is the basis of future classes that will decide the outcome and score a student gets in higher grades.

Through this article, we will discuss the syllabus of class 7 along with the important chapters and topics.

Chapter 1 – Integers

In Chapter 1 of the NCERT Maths book, students are expected to learn the basics of integers, along with their properties including the identities important for addition and multiplication, that are commutative, distributive, and associative properties.

Chapter 2 – Fractions and Decimals

The second chapter contains concepts, solved examples, questions, and solutions of Fractions and Decimals. Owing to the simple language used in the chapter, students can grasp the concepts easily as well as apply them while solving questions in the chapter. It is normal for a student to have doubts and it is a good idea to reach out to your teacher to solve them so that you don’t face problems in the future. You can also refer to the NCERT maths book class 7 solutions pdf if you get stuck on any question.

Chapter 3 – Data Handling

Chapter 3 in class 7 maths is on Data Handling. The NCERT Mathematics book includes very detailed explanations of the subtopics of the data handling chapter, such as collecting and analyzing data, calculating averages, representing data using different methods, and so on.

Chapter 4 – Simple Equations

The fourth chapter in class 7 is Simple Equations. In this chapter, students learn about all the important facts as well as the basic concepts of simple equations. NCERT mathematics Chapter 4 is created to provide relevant information along with problems and their accurate solutions.

Chapter 5 – Lines and Angles

Chapter 5 of the NCERT course book deals with the concepts of lines and angles. The definitions of both, along with their properties, and rules to solve related problems have been provided.

Chapter 6 – The Triangle and its Properties

Students have to gain a proper grip of the sixth chapter in class 7. This part provides important information in precise and easy-to-understand language for the students about Triangles, their types, and the properties of each type.

Chapter 7 – Congruence of Triangles

The NCERT book for Class 7 can help you to learn the concept of congruent triangles very well. Along with it, other concepts such as congruence of planes and criteria of congruence of shapes are also covered under this topic.

Chapter 8 – Comparing Quantities

This chapter is created to allow students to apply formulas to compute ratios and then compare quantities for solving a variety of problems. In chapter 8, students will learn useful concepts like ratio and proportion. This chapter also includes the unitary method, calculation of percentage, simple interest, and their application in practical life. Converting fractions or decimals into percentages, and percentages into decimals and fractions are also included here.

Chapter 9 – Rational Numbers

In the ninth chapter, rational numbers have been discussed with special attention to detail by experts in the subject matter. These concepts will fulfill the primary requirement of the students, which is having strong basics in the subject.

Chapter 10 – Practical Geometry

NCERT Practical Geometry is made to offer detailed solutions for the construction of geometric figures. At this point, students should already know the basic shapes, along with the process of drawing lines. In this chapter, students learn the process of drawing a parallel line or triangles, with the different measurements provided in the book.

Chapter 11 – Perimeter and Area

The concept of Perimeter and Area has been taught in Chapter 11. The student will learn about pi, the circumference of circles, and other related concepts. In this chapter, concepts of measuring the area of a square, triangle, rectangle, circle, and the area between two concentric circles using a standard unit are discussed.

Chapter 12 – Algebraic Expressions

Chapter 12 is Algebraic Expressions according to the NCERT syllabus and is meant to teach concepts such as constants, variables, factors, coefficients, like and unlike terms. In this chapter, the method of writing as well as solving algebraic expressions and equations with single or double variables are also explained.

Chapter 13 – Exponent and Powers

In Exponent and Powers, you are provided with the study material involving squares and cubes of integers. This material will help the student to get a good understanding of given concepts and solving problems will become easier with the help of the solved examples provided in the book. This chapter teaches the exponents of numbers with the rules of exponents with the help of observing patterns to arrive at a generalization.

Chapter 14 – Symmetry

The NCERT syllabus prescribes symmetry in chapter 14 Maths. Here the student is going to understand the concept of Symmetry. This will involve recalling reflection symmetry and rotational symmetry, with the observations of rotational symmetry of flat objects. Such concepts will be important in several activities in day-to-day life.

Chapter 15 – Visualising Solid Shapes

For class 7, according to the NCERT syllabus, the concept of drawing 3-dimensional figures is taught in chapter 15. This chapter also discusses the process of identification and counting of vertices, edges, faces.

These chapters are important to form the foundation for mathematical knowledge in the upcoming years. Hence, students should focus on these chapters and topics to score good marks in their class 7 maths exam.
