How To Create Shopify Store’s Google Shopping Feed To Gain More Visibility?

Google shopping feed is a file that holds all your online store’s product details in a format, which other systems can read. The feeds are popular in multiple different names product data feed, merchant center feeds, data feed, product feeds, etc. The feeds are used by multiple different feeds. If you desire to promote your merchandise in Google shopping, then you will need to comply with Google’s requirements.

Google requirements will depend on –

  • The product type you are selling.
  • The country you are selling in.

Basic Google Shopping Feed attributes 

  • ID – Product ID number used in your online store. Use SKU numbers as your ID.
  • Title – Describe product up to 150 characters. Start with Keywords as Google shows the first 35 characters in the shopping ad.
  • Description – Give product details that are helpful to customers.
  • Link – Provide a direct link.
  • Image link – Main product image link.
  • Google product category – Use specific categories from the Google product taxonomy to increase visibility.
  • Product type – Create your personal subcategory for easy campaign organization.
  • Condition – New, used, or refurbished.
  • Availability – In-stock, pre-order, out-of-stock.
  • Price – Product price + currency matching to the country feed is created. Include VAT if necessary.
  • Sale price – It will communicate a special discount or deal on the product.

Google is extremely strict about accuracy in your feed. What is mentioned in the feed has to match your website data. If the sales price does not match then the product gets disapproved. So, integrate your Shopify store with Promonavigator to create Google product feed automatically and correctly.

  • Global Trade Item Number – GTIN is an exclusive product identifier or barcodes. Different systems are used UPC, EAN/UCC, JAN, or ISBN. If bundle or multipack is sold then use one product’s GTIN.
  • Brand – Mention the name of the manufacturer and not your store name or distributor’s name.
  • Manufacturer Part Number – Mpn is needed for products without a valid Gtin number. Mpn is given by the product manufacturer.
  • Identifier exists – If you are reselling items with product identifier existing, set it as TRUE. If you are selling customized or old items with an identifier existing then set it as FALSE. This detail is needed to match your ad with the right search queries.

Google needs a minimum of two identifiers because there are multiple sellers with different descriptions and titles. These identifiers help Google to find out the relevant product.

  • Special product attributes – Some categories need to add extra details in the product feed. E.g. Clothing is a demanding category.
  • Item-group-ID – If you are selling items with multiple variations like different sizes or colors, make sure the item_group_id is the same. For example –
  1. Peach crop top 28: item_group_id: croptop11 – color: peach – size: 28 – age_group: adult
  2. Black crop top 32: item_group_id: croptop11 – color: black – size: 32 – age_group: adult
  • Color – If there are several colors for a single apparel item then offer three colors with a slash in between.
  • Gender – Male, female, or Unisex.
  • Size – Product size has to be consistent across variations.
  • Age_group – It identifies the audience you are targeting for your product.
  • Adult – it is needed if the product you sell contains sexually or nudity suggestive content.
  • Custom–label – Custom_label attributes is the extra information you add to the feed
